We are pleased to inform you that Mikołaj Topola, MSc Eng., a PhD student from our department, participated in a two-week short-term exchange at the University of Leeds, which took place from March 29 to April 12, 2025. During his stay, Mikołaj conducted tribological research on the properties of light alloys, which are crucial for his doctoral project.
The purpose of the visit was to conduct advanced tribological studies to better understand the phenomenon of material wear due to friction. The exchange was funded by the NAWA PROM program, which supports scientific mobility and the development of young researchers.
The University of Leeds is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom. It is known for its strong emphasis on scientific research and academic excellence. The School of Mechanical Engineering offers modern research facilities and conducts world-class research in areas such as materials, tribology, and advanced manufacturing.
During his stay at the University of Leeds, Mikołaj conducted a series of tribological tests using modern laboratory equipment. These studies aimed to better understand the phenomenon of material wear due to friction and to compare selected materials. Additionally, Mikołaj conducted corrosion tests, examining the rate of material degradation by immersing samples in hydrochloric acid at a concentration of 3.5%.
The two-week exchange was extremely beneficial for Mikołaj, allowing him to conduct the necessary tribological tests for his doctoral research and deepen his knowledge of fretting wear. It was also a valuable opportunity to learn about English culture and collaborate in an international research team.
